Born in 1928 in Sheffield, Lorna was the wife of the renowned Iraqi modernist Jewad Selim. She received a scholarship to study at the Slade School of Fine Arts in London where she received a diploma in painting and design in 1948. It was there that she met Jewad Selim and in 1950 they got married in Baghdad. She became a member of the Bagdad Modern Art Group founded by her husband

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Lorna Selim achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in London in June 2021. In the Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art including BaghdadiyatIraqi Masterpieces from the Madhloom and Makiya Collections auction, the work Architectural Composition II sold for GBP 21,500.00 (€ 25,053.09) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Lorna Selim - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Baghdadiyat, which sold at auction in June 2020 for GBP 52,562.00 (€ 57,887.93).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Lorna Selim erzielte im Juni 2021 bei Bonhams in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art including BaghdadiyatIraqi Masterpieces from the Madhloom and Makiya Collections wurde die Arbeit Architectural Composition II für GBP 21.500,00 (€ 25.053,09) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 8.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Lorna Selim mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Baghdadiyat beobachtet, die im Juni 2020 für GBP 52.562,00 (€ 57.887,93) versteigert wurde.
