In September 2009 Christies in New York held the auction American Paintings, which included the work Sitting by the Shore by Lockwood de Forest. The result of USD 3,000.00 (€ 2,050.58) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by Lockwood de Forest have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Sunset Beyond a Valley in April this year with an auction result of USD 17,850.00 (€ 16,168.48).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Im September 2009 führte Christies in New York die Auktion American Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sitting by the Shore von Lockwood de Forest zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von USD 3.000,00 (€ 2.050,58) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Lockwood de Forest auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Sunset Beyond a Valley im April diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 17.850,00 (€ 16.168,48).
