Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The Arabian Nights by Lionel Percy Smythe was auctioned at Sothebys in London in November 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,045.38). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Lionel Percy Smythe achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Boulogne Fisher-Folk, An Impression in December 2007 with an auction result of GBP 78,500.00 (€ 106,668.18).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The Arabian Nights von Lionel Percy Smythe im November 2008 bei Sothebys in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 5.000,00 (€ 6.045,38) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Lionel Percy Smythe erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Boulogne Fisher-Folk, An Impression im Dezember 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 78.500,00 (€ 106.668,18).
