Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2003 Christies in London held the auction Photographs, which included the work Japanese views and portraits by Kusakabe Kimbei. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,075.50 (€ 1,498.44) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Kusakabe Kimbei - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Japanese landscapes and portrait studies, circa 1880s-90s, which sold at auction in May 2000 for GBP 2,115.00 (€ 3,393.80).
