An oban triptych titled Sogo watashiba no zu (Picture of Sogo on a Ferry), depicting the legendary farmer Kiuchi Sogo (1605-1653) conveying his gratitude to the boatman Kanbei for his clandestine assistance in returning home from a visit to the Shogun appealing against heavy duties, published by Matsuki Heikichi, dated Meiji 17 (1884), signed Kobayashi Kiyochika ga. The right sheet: 35.8cm x 23.6cm (14 1/8in x 9 5/16in); the middle sheet: 35.8cm x 24.2cm (14 1/8in x 9 9/16in); the left sheet: 35.8cm x 23.3cm (14 1/8in x 9 1/8in). (3).
