Circa 1772
From a series of twelve chuban prints illustrating the cultivation of silkworms, with six by Kitao Shigemasa and six by Katsukawa Shunsho. It is known in several editions, the first dating to around 1772 to which the present example belongs. It was reprinted in 1776 and then later in 1786.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Women Cultivating Silkworms by Kitao Shigemasa was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2019. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,125.00 (€ 1,235.18) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Admittedly, works by Kitao Shigemasa have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work La première, période Edo (1615-1868), fin du 18e et début 19e siècle ; la seconde, probablement ère Showa (1926-1989), début du 20e siècle in October this year with an auction result of EUR 11,520.00.
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Women Cultivating Silkworms von Kitao Shigemasa kam im Juli 2019 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 1.125,00 (€ 1.235,18) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 800,00 – 1.200,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Kitao Shigemasa auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit La première, période Edo (1615-1868), fin du 18e et début 19e siècle ; la seconde, probablement ère Showa (1926-1989), début du 20e siècle im Oktober diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 11.520,00.
