Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Kitao Shigemasa (1739-1820) by Kitao Shigemasa was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 625.00 (€ 439.55). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Kitao Shigemasa achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work La première, période Edo (1615-1868), fin du 18e et début 19e siècle ; la seconde, probablement ère Showa (1926-1989), début du 20e siècle in October this year with an auction result of EUR 11,520.00.
