Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Thomas Brudenell, Later Brudenell-Bruce, 1St Earl Of Ailesbury (1729-1814) by Catherine Read was sold in the Old Master & British Drawings Sale auction at Sothebys in London in July 2012. The price achieved of GBP 5,000.00 (€ 6,368.66) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Catherine Read - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Lady Isabella Stanhope, later Countess of Sefton (1748-1819), half-length, in Hussar's costume, with a blue pelisse over a braided red dolman, which sold at auction in May 2012 for GBP 10,625.00 (€ 13,238.28).
