This artwork by Catherine Read achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in October 2018. In the Old Masters Online auction, the work Portrait Of A Woman, Probably Anne Champion De Crespigny (1739-1797), Bust Length, Within A Drawn Oval sold for USD 10,625.00 (€ 9,376.10) - well above the upper estimate of USD 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Catherine Read; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Lady Isabella Stanhope, later Countess of Sefton (1748-1819), half-length, in Hussar's costume, with a blue pelisse over a braided red dolman sold at auction in May 2012 with the realized price of GBP 10,625.00 (€ 13,238.28).
