This artwork by Karl von Saar achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in May 2020. In the Old Masters including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection auction, the work Portrait Of An Officer sold for GBP 6,875.00 (€ 7,632.01) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Karl von Saar; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A young boy, facing right in olive-green coat, red, green and brown checked waistcoat, white shirt and white spotted bright blue tie, short fair hair; cloud and sky background sold at auction in November 2001 with the realized price of GBP 7,637.50 (€ 12,153.67).
