signed, dated and inscribed 'Just Gantz Madras 1840' (lower left), further inscribed 'In the Grounds of Mr Chambers residence at Grundy, Madras, with Indian natives, a lodge gate and a windmill' (on the old backing paper, according to the previous cataloguing)

In September 2021 Bonhams in London held the auction Travel & Exploration, which included the work A Windmill In The Grounds Of An Impressive Colonial Residence, Possibly Government House, Madras Walnut Frame by Justinian Gantz. Other works by Justinian Gantz have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 4,112.50 (€ 6,881.47) in September 2000 for the work Indian figures and an elephant in a street outside a European house, Madras.
