This artwork by Josephus Augustus Knip achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2001. In the OLD MASTER DRAWINGS auction, the work An extensive montainous landscape with a town on the top of a hill sold for USD 18,800.00 (€ 20,197.68) - well above the upper estimate of USD 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Josephus Augustus Knip - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Maison de Buffon in the Jardin de Plantes, Paris, which sold at auction in November 2012 for EUR 75,400.00.
