Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2002 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours and Drawings, which included the work View of Castle Place, Belfast (illustrated); and View of the High Street, Belfast by Joseph William Carey. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,585.00 (€ 4,089.01) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Joseph William Carey have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in May 2000 the work Theta; a yacht, racing in Belfast Lough was auctioned for GBP 4,700.00 (€ 7,541.77).
