In December 2014 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale, which included the work Rome, From Mount Aventine by Joseph Mallord William Turner. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 30,322,500.00 (€ 39,035,113.21), 52% above the upper estimate. This high result makes Rome, From Mount Aventine the most expensive artwork by Joseph Mallord William Turner that we have observed at auctions so far.
