Auction result well in line with expectations
The work View of the Lake District with figures in the foreground (illustrated); and View near Hastings, Sussex by Joseph Farington was sold in the Christie's Interiors Including Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours From The Collection of The Late John Appleby auction at Christies in London in March 2011. The price achieved of GBP 812.50 (€ 919.34) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 700.00 – 900.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Joseph Farington achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The gatehouse on the bridge over the River Severn at Bridgnorth, Shropshire, with the church of St. Leonard beyond in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 14,340.00 (€ 20,585.28).
