Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Christ on the cross by José Villegas was sold in the 19th Century European Art including Ottomans and Orientalist auction at Christies in London in June 2002. The price achieved of GBP 4,935.00 (€ 7,633.33) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by José Villegas achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Spanish Siesta in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 579,000.00 (€ 496,143.96).
