Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Phyllis by John William Waterhouse was sold in the Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art auction at Sothebys in London in July 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 112,500.00 (€ 126,137.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John William Waterhouse achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work St Cecilia 'In a clear walled city on the sea, Near gilded organ pipes... ...slept St Cecily' in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 6,603,750.00 (€ 10,467,756.68).
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit St Cecilia 'In a clear walled city on the sea, Near gilded organ pipes... ...slept St Cecily' im Juni 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 6.603.750,00 (€ 10.467.756,68).
