It achieved a price of GBP 4,032.00 (€ 4,780.39), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 34%. Admittedly, works by John Varley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Plains of Marathon in January 2003 with an auction result of GBP 19,120.00 (€ 29,284.45).

Die Arbeit View of Conwy Castle, North Wales von John Varley kam im März letzten Jahres bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 4.032,00 (€ 4.780,39) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 34%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Varley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Plains of Marathon im Januar 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 19.120,00 (€ 29.284,45).
