Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The east side of Caernarvon Castle, North Wales, seen from the south by John Varley was auctioned at Christies in London in March last year. The price achieved of GBP 2,520.00 (€ 2,987.74) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Varley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Plains of Marathon in January 2003 with an auction result of GBP 19,120.00 (€ 29,284.45).
