Auction result well in line with expectations
In March last year Christies in London held the auction Dramas of Light and Land: The Martyn Gregory Collection of British Art, which included the work Cader Idris, Snowdonia, Wales by John Varley. The price achieved of GBP 9,450.00 (€ 11,204.04) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Varley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Plains of Marathon, which sold at auction in January 2003 for GBP 19,120.00 (€ 29,284.45).
