Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A woman and children before Walton Bridge, Surrey by John Varley was auctioned at Christies in London in March last year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 6,300.00 (€ 7,469.36) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Varley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Plains of Marathon, which sold at auction in January 2003 for GBP 19,120.00 (€ 29,284.45).

Die Arbeit A woman and children before Walton Bridge, Surrey von John Varley kam im März letzten Jahres bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 6.300,00 (€ 7.469,36) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von John Varley mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Plains of Marathon beobachtet, die im Januar 2003 für GBP 19.120,00 (€ 29.284,45) versteigert wurde.
