This artwork by John Varley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March last year. In the Dramas of Light and Land: The Martyn Gregory Collection of British Art auction, the work A sketch of an angler in a mountainous landscape sold for GBP 3,528.00 (€ 4,182.84) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Varley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Plains of Marathon in January 2003 with an auction result of GBP 19,120.00 (€ 29,284.45).

Dieses Kunstwerk von John Varley erzielte im März letzten Jahres bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Dramas of Light and Land: The Martyn Gregory Collection of British Art wurde die Arbeit A sketch of an angler in a mountainous landscape für GBP 3.528,00 (€ 4.182,84) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 2.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Varley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Plains of Marathon im Januar 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 19.120,00 (€ 29.284,45).
