The price achieved of GBP 74,500.00 (€ 101,167.42) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 60,000.00 – 80,000.00. Other works by John Thomas Serres have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in February 2005 the work Shipping off Lisbon, a seventy-four Third Rate passing two small craft as she heads out of the Tagus into a squall, with an anchored British frigate off her port beam and the Belém Tower receding astern was auctioned for GBP 84,000.00 (€ 121,810.76).
