Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Santa Maria della Salute, Venice by John Thomas Serres was sold in the Old Masters/New Scholars: Works of Art Sold to Benefit Rugby School auction at Christies in London in December 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 12,533.50) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Thomas Serres have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Shipping off Lisbon, a seventy-four Third Rate passing two small craft as she heads out of the Tagus into a squall, with an anchored British frigate off her port beam and the Belém Tower receding astern in February 2005 with an auction result of GBP 84,000.00 (€ 121,810.76).
Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Thomas Serres auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Shipping off Lisbon, a seventy-four Third Rate passing two small craft as she heads out of the Tagus into a squall, with an anchored British frigate off her port beam and the Belém Tower receding astern im Februar 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 84.000,00 (€ 121.810,76).
