This work of art by John Sutton could be acquired at Christies in New York in January 2009 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime Decorative Arts auction, the work Thermopylae and Cuttysark leaving Foochow for London in the Tea race of 1872 changed hands for USD 1,250.00 (€ 976.26) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. Admittedly, works by John Sutton have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Britannia, Westward, Lulworth and White Heather racing in Christchurch Bay with the Needles beyond, 1927 in February 2005 with an auction result of USD 7,200.00 (€ 5,424.14).
