In February 2005 Christies in New York held the auction Maritime including Scientific & Medical Instruments, which included the work Britannia, Westward, Lulworth and White Heather racing in Christchurch Bay with the Needles beyond, 1927 by John Sutton. The price achieved of USD 7,200.00 (€ 5,424.14) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Britannia, Westward, Lulworth and White Heather racing in Christchurch Bay with the Needles beyond, 1927 is the most expensive artwork by John Sutton that we have observed at auctions so far.
