In June 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Ocean Liner Furnishings and Art, which included the work The S.S. United States Outward Bound by John Stewart. The »bidding war« ended at USD 6,600.00 (€ 5,164.72), 32% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by John Stewart have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Muhammad Ali, "Fist & Arm", Chicago in November 2017 with an auction result of GBP 21,250.00 (€ 24,121.91).

Oberer Schätzpreis um 32 % übertroffen

Im Juni 2006 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Ocean Liner Furnishings and Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit The S.S. United States Outward Bound von John Stewart zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 6.600,00 (€ 5.164,72) und damit 32% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Stewart auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Muhammad Ali, "Fist & Arm", Chicago im November 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 21.250,00 (€ 24.121,91).
