Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In July 2019 Christies in London held the auction British & European Art: Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, which included the work The action between H.M.S. Java and the U.S. frigate Constitution off Brazil, 29 December 1812 by John Steven Dews. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 30,000.00 (€ 32,938.01), 20% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by John Steven Dews have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Westward Reaching Through Cowes Roads in December 2006 with an auction result of GBP 120,000.00 (€ 178,095.02).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Juli 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion British & European Art: Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit The action between H.M.S. Java and the U.S. frigate Constitution off Brazil, 29 December 1812 von John Steven Dews zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 30.000,00 (€ 32.938,01) und damit 20% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Steven Dews auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Westward Reaching Through Cowes Roads im Dezember 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 120.000,00 (€ 178.095,02).
