The work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Traditionally Identified As George Sutton (1751-1804) by John Smart was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2019. It achieved a price of GBP 8,125.00 (€ 8,920.71), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 35%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Smart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Muhammad 'Ali Khan, Nawab Of Arcot And Prince Of The Carnatic (1718-1795) in April 2008 with an auction result of GBP 120,500.00 (€ 153,620.47).
