This artwork by John Singer Sargent achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in July 2019. In the American Art Online auction, the work Ethel Barrymore sold for USD 37,500.00 (€ 33,692.72) - well above the upper estimate of USD 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Singer Sargent achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work San Geremia in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 9,087,500.00 (€ 7,787,060.84).

In der Auktion American Art Online wurde die Arbeit Ethel Barrymore für USD 37.500,00 (€ 33.692,72) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 18.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Singer Sargent erzielen.
