Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Pensioner Of The Revolution by John Neagle was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,375.00 (€ 2,166.58). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Neagle achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Red Jacket in September 2012 with an auction result of USD 40,000.00 (€ 31,113.88).
