Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2007 Christies in London held the auction Maritime, which included the work The sail training ships Sir Winston Churchill, Royalist and Lord Nelson in the Solent by John J. Holmes. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 875.00 (€ 1,225.23) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John J. Holmes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Astra, Candida and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes, 1934, which sold at auction in May 2007 for GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,238.11).

Im November 2007 führte Christies in London die Auktion Maritime durch, in der auch die Arbeit The sail training ships Sir Winston Churchill, Royalist and Lord Nelson in the Solent von John J. Holmes zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 800,00 – 1.200,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 875,00 (€ 1.225,23) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von John J. Holmes mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Astra, Candida and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes, 1934 beobachtet, die im Mai 2007 für GBP 2.880,00 (€ 4.238,11) versteigert wurde.
