Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2007 Christies in London held the auction Maritime & Naval Battles (Pictures), which included the work The final season for two legends: Britannia and Westward racing in the Solent, 1935 by John J. Holmes. It changed hands for a price of GBP 1,140.00 (€ 1,677.59) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John J. Holmes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Astra, Candida and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes, 1934, which sold at auction in May 2007 for GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,238.11).
