Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John J. Holmes could be acquired at Sothebys in Olympia in November 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British and Continental Pictures including Marine pictures auction, the work Edinburgh Castle And Astra Off The Isle Of Arran changed hands for GBP 780.00 (€ 1,158.32) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John J. Holmes - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Astra, Candida and Shamrock (V) racing off Cowes, 1934, which sold at auction in May 2007 for GBP 2,880.00 (€ 4,238.11).
