Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Young Lady Traditionally Called Helen, Viscountess Tarras, In Blue Dress With White Chemise, Pearl Necklace, Curled Auburn Hair by John Hoskins was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,529.45). Admittedly, works by John Hoskins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A gentleman called Inigo Jones, in black gown, white lawn collar with tassels, black skull cap, long curling brown hair, moustache and small pointed beard; pillar and landscape background with castle in the distance in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 36,500.00 (€ 51,109.44).
