Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Portrait Of James Stuart, 1St Duke Of Richmond And 4Th Duke Of Lennox (1612-1655), Circa 1640 by John Hoskins was worth GBP 30,000.00 (€ 32,938.01) to a buyer in July 2019. This price was achieved in the auction The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures Part II at Sothebys in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 9,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Hoskins; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A gentleman called Inigo Jones, in black gown, white lawn collar with tassels, black skull cap, long curling brown hair, moustache and small pointed beard; pillar and landscape background with castle in the distance sold at auction in November 2007 with the realized price of GBP 36,500.00 (€ 51,109.44).
