In November 2000 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU, which included the work A lady called Mrs Cromwell, facing right in black dress with white underdress, fur cloak, string of pearls, black hood by John Hoskins. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 4,465.00 (€ 7,297.87), 49% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by John Hoskins have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A gentleman called Inigo Jones, in black gown, white lawn collar with tassels, black skull cap, long curling brown hair, moustache and small pointed beard; pillar and landscape background with castle in the distance in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 36,500.00 (€ 51,109.44).

Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 4.465,00 (€ 7.297,87) und damit 49% über dem oberen Schätzpreis.
