When the work Still Life With Bread And Fruit by John Edward Heliker was auctioned at Christies in New York in June 2007, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 2,500.00 but the actual price achieved was more than five times as high at USD 13,200.00 (€ 9,763.31). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Edward Heliker; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Edge Of The Orchard sold at auction in June 2001 with the realized price of USD 9,400.00 (€ 11,092.75).
