Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Empty Pockets by John George Brown was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 10,710.00 (€ 9,980.43). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John George Brown achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Thrilling Moment in January this year with an auction result of USD 819,000.00 (€ 754,282.56).
