This artwork by John Faulkner achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2000. In the Irish Pictures auction, the work Sailing boats on a rough sea sold for GBP 3,760.00 (€ 6,033.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Faulkner; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Crookhaven, Co. Cork sold at auction in May 2004 with the realized price of GBP 6,572.50 (€ 9,861.17).
