Auction result misses estimated price range
In December 2020 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of Mrs Townley and her son by John Downman for GBP 1,890.00 (€ 2,111.30). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper, including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Downman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Henry Frederick Bouverie And His Sister in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 96,000.00 (€ 73,857.52).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Dezember 2020 konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Portrait of Mrs Townley and her son von John Downman für GBP 1.890,00 (€ 2.111,30) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Old Master and British Works on Paper, including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection bei Sothebys in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 4.000,00 – 6.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Downman erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait Of Henry Frederick Bouverie And His Sister im Januar 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 96.000,00 (€ 73.857,52).
