Auction result well in line with expectations
In March last year Christies in London held the auction Dramas of Light and Land: The Martyn Gregory Collection of British Art, which included the work Portrait of Dr. Thomas Monro (1759-1833) by John Downman. The price achieved of GBP 4,410.00 (€ 5,228.55) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Downman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Henry Frederick Bouverie And His Sister in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 96,000.00 (€ 73,857.52).
