Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Downman could be acquired at Sothebys in London in December 2020 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and British Works on Paper, including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection auction, the work A portrait of Lady Hester Lushington (1750-1830) and her son Stephen Lushington (1782-1873) changed hands for GBP 1,260.00 (€ 1,407.53) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Downman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Henry Frederick Bouverie And His Sister in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 96,000.00 (€ 73,857.52).
In der Auktion Old Master and British Works on Paper, including Portrait Miniatures from the Pohl-Ströher Collection wechselte die Arbeit A portrait of Lady Hester Lushington (1750-1830) and her son Stephen Lushington (1782-1873) für GBP 1.260,00 (€ 1.407,53) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00.
