Auction result misses estimated price range

When the work Portrait Of Mrs. Fisher, Wife Of The Bishop Of Salisbury, Half-Length, Wearing An Elaborately Ruffled White Dress Trimmed With Blue Ribbons by John Downman was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2015, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,875.00 (€ 2,546.16). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Downman achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Henry Frederick Bouverie And His Sister in January 2007 with an auction result of USD 96,000.00 (€ 73,857.52).
