Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Moon in the Garden, 2005 by John Coburn was auctioned at Bonhams in Sydney in November this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of AUD 300.00 – 600.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for AUD 246.00 (€ 149.16). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Coburn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Icon, 1970 in November 2021 with an auction result of AUD 387,450.00 (€ 343,271.02).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Moon in the Garden, 2005 von John Coburn im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in Sydney versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von AUD 300,00 – 600,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für AUD 246,00 (€ 149,16) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von John Coburn erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Icon, 1970 im November 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von AUD 387.450,00 (€ 343.271,02).
