This artwork by John Closterman achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2011. In the Old Masters and British Paintings auction, the work Portrait of Edward Radclyffe 2nd Earl of Derwentwater (1655-1705), bust-length, in a red mantle sold for GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,976.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Closterman; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait Of Isabella Willis (D. 1727) sold at auction in June 2008 with the realized price of GBP 17,500.00 (€ 22,120.59).

Dieses Kunstwerk von John Closterman erzielte im Dezember 2011 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Masters and British Paintings wurde die Arbeit Portrait of Edward Radclyffe 2nd Earl of Derwentwater (1655-1705), bust-length, in a red mantle für GBP 10.000,00 (€ 11.976,41) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 5.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von John Closterman; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Portrait Of Isabella Willis (D. 1727) im Juni 2008 mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 17.500,00 (€ 22.120,59).
