Almighty Kay Gee started off as a break-dancer before joining the Cold Crush Brothers, the pioneering Hip Hop group founded in the Bronx, New York in the late 70s and who would go on to become the legendary Cold Crush 4 in 1980 featuring Kay Gee, Grandmaster Caz, Easy A.D. and JDL (Jerry D. Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Almighty Kay Gee, Ca 1995 by John Ahearn was worth USD 10,710.00 (€ 9,139.78) to a buyer in September 2020. This price was achieved in the auction Hip Hop at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 3,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by John Ahearn; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Victor and Ernest sold at auction in September 2017 with the realized price of USD 21,250.00 (€ 17,988.66).
