Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Souvenir de Chantilly by Jean Louis Forain was auctioned at Sothebys in Paris in December 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at - in retrospect quite modest - EUR 100,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at EUR 448,100.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean Louis Forain - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work La femme aux affiches, which sold at auction in May 2018 for USD 1,692,500.00 (€ 1,450,299.91).
Kunstwerk zum Vierfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Souvenir de Chantilly von Jean Louis Forain im Dezember 2021 bei Sothebys in Paris versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – EUR 100.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit EUR 448.100,00 mehr als viermal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Jean Louis Forain mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit La femme aux affiches beobachtet, die im Mai 2018 für USD 1.692.500,00 (€ 1.450.299,91) versteigert wurde.
