This artwork by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2007. In the Old Master and British Pictures auction, the work The Dutch Ambassador With His Retinue Being Received By Sultan Ahmed III At The Topkapi Palace, Istanbul sold for GBP 168,500.00 (€ 228,962.92) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 60,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Armenian women embroidering in an interior; Armenian women drinking coffee in an interior; Armenian interior with a sultan and his favourite; and Greek sailors merrymaking in an interior, which sold at auction in December 2006 for GBP 355,200.00 (€ 527,161.26).
