Auction result misses estimated price range
In April 2015 a collector was able to acquire the work French the Procession Of Sultan Ahmed Iii by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour for GBP 149,000.00 (€ 204,611.36). This price was achieved in the auction The Orientalist Sale at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 150,000.00 – 250,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Baptiste Vanmour - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Armenian women embroidering in an interior; Armenian women drinking coffee in an interior; Armenian interior with a sultan and his favourite; and Greek sailors merrymaking in an interior, which sold at auction in December 2006 for GBP 355,200.00 (€ 527,161.26).
